Bills & Legislation

The hypothetical bills listed below are just a few examples of the kinds of legislation that Cody will be pushing for if elected as a member of the Arizona State Legislature. Be it healthcare, housing, democracy, climate action, or any other issue that matters to Arizona voters, Cody has legislation for his first term already planned and drafted so that he’ll be ready to hit the ground running once he’s elected and fight for the kinds of changes that Arizona’s working families and our environment need- and that the Democratic and Republican parties have refused to pursue.

  • Background: Arizona’s current statutes governing political party recognition and ballot access for new parties are some of the most burdensome in the country, and the unnecessarily high signature requirements necessary for a new political party to gain official recognition keep voices outside of the two major parties that don’t have corporate funding backing their ballot access efforts locked out of the political process.

Purpose: The “Arizona Inclusive Democracy Act” aims to amplify and include more voices and more choices in the political conversation for Arizona voters by reducing the minimum requirements for new political party recognition, continuing representation on the ballot, and removing the distinction between state and county-level political party recognition.

  • Background: Arizona’s current statutes governing marriage prohibits same sex marriage and considers marriages between persons of the same sex to be void in the eyes of the law. This is unjust, out of step with public opinion, and just plain homophobic.

Purpose: The “Freedom to Love Act” aims to codify the rights of same sex couples in Arizona to freely and consensually enter into a marriage and enjoy the same legal rights, protections, and status as marriages between persons of the opposite sex.
